Literature Circles
This recipe is a 'hotspot' borrowed from the Balanced Literacy Diet website Virtual Tours grade 5/6 (http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/balancedliteracydiet/Recipe/50098/). In watching many of the virtual tours on the website, this teacher's innovation and use of critical thinking as a vehicle to language and literacy development is inspiring. For this hotspot this teacher is explaining her use of literature circles. This recipe could be used as a tool for establishing/working on small group skills in a controlled/detailed format (Small-group skills are part of the Learning Skills/Work Habits section of the Ontario Progress Report Card).
