V.O.I.C.E: Writing Assessment Tool
This recipe can be found on the Balanced Literacy Diet website <http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/balancedliteracydiet/Recipe/50109/>. Having checklists in writing (especially in anchor chart form) gives students the tools to be successful in writing and to self-check their work.
Snow (2002) notes that prior experience, and knowledge with topic greatly effects motivation/comprehension of reading. I would add that this could also be applied to writing as well. Knowing/ understanding the purpose of Voice, Organization, Ideas and Content, Conventions, and Effective Use of Language (VOICE) in writing helps develop/create stronger/better writers.
