Popplet: Brainstorming/Idea Sharing
This recipe is based on a free online/web-based brainstorming website. During my internship, my students used this website for brainstorming/mind mapping homework. (www.popplet.com) I love this activity because it allows students to use multiple means of expressing their ideas. Furthermore it allows students to think/write in a non-linear perspective.

Popplet Characteristics:
Interactive Class Brainstorming: We began our Popplet use with a simple question: 'What are the Basic Needs of Humans?' Students logged in and posted text, videos (home-made/uploaded from Youtube); photos or paint drawings to justify their ideas/connect them to their peers. Poetry Analysis: We used this activity in a beat- poetry analysis of Shane Koyczan's poem We Are More (see photo 1). Students were required to make 3 different coloured popplets (bubbles): 1: with their favourite quote from poem 2nd: Whether they agreed with Shane's perspective 3rd: What they think it means to be Canadian Students posted their ideas, and connected them to other's in their class. At the end of the week, 5 students were randomly selected to present their thinking/beliefs to class (using SMARTBoard). Extensions:
